Hi Everyone:
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the love, prayers and blessings that have been pouring in. I know that after a while these things can get old and peter out but our friends from around the world, and I do mean around the world have been holding us up.
I got to the hospital a few minutes ago and they were doing an EKG on Allie so I though I would take this moment to update everyone.
Today our little girl actually dined on raveoli. Pretty cool. I noticed that the food tube was not running and they said they were weaning her off of it so she would begin eating. I noticed she did not eat the cake and my wife said it appears that Allie does not like sweets. Uh Oh somethings changed (for the better).
Nancy said Allie was very active today and was getting quite agitated at times. We hear this is typical with brain injuries but I think is is boredom and frustration. hey, how would you feel if you had tubes sticking out of you and you were in ebd for three weeks. They also pulled her pick line out today. The pick line is a tube they run up you arm and into the superior vena cava so they can draw blood or introduce medicines without having to stick you every time.
I heard Allie also did the twist while in bed today. nancy and the nurse began singing the sond and dancing and Allie shook her bootie also.
The physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist all showed up today so little Allie is pooped. She was retested by the Rehab doctor today also who said she is really not ready to move to the Rehab - WE AGREE!!!
Allie is doing great and we are all very proud and amazed at the progress she is making but realistically she has a long way to go.
Today I am throing a shout out to all the FLYbabies of the world who have been so wonderful to our family. If you don't know what a flybaby is go to www.flylady.net - you'll be glad you did. Speaking of the Flylady, I had lunch with her and Michelle today and I cried in my truck as I drove down her listening to the FlyLady CD and thinking about how much she and her entire world of babies means to Nancy and I. In the next few days you will be hearing about an amazing new website designed to help people recovering from trauma (and aren;t we all).
Everyday brings with it the opportunity to improve your vision - you can see the good if you only look for it.
I love you all. Don't forget, Sunday is Allie's High School Graduation!!! You go Girl
Have an AWESOME night -

Just a flybaby from Michigan letting you know that Allie and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. Allie seems to have a phenomenal support system, which I'm sure is why her recovery has been so remarkable to date. She is a beautiful girl and here is to continued success as she travels the road to a FULL RECOVERY!
Allie and her whole family are in my thoughts. She sounds like an amazing girl, and you can't keep amazing people down. It sounds like she has a pretty wonderful family helping her through this.

Another Flybaby here, from the Pocono Mountains of PA; I haven't read my emails in a while and while catching up today found out about Allie and just read the blog. Your family will be in my prayers, her recovery sounds phenomenal thus far and I'm positive she will indeed have a FULL RECOVERY. God bless you {{Hugs}}.
Peace that passes understanding...Perfect Love that casts out all fear... We're blessed as what's in your heart comes out in your writing. As I pray for Allie and thank God for her full recovery, I can picture her laughing and enjoying life with her family. I've already had the opportunity to share your journal with another family whose daughter was in a similar accident this week. I'm grateful to God for what He's provided thrugh you. He does indeed turn things meant for evil into good. May His blessings continue to overtake all of you.

Hi Allie,
Glad to hear that you are achieving some of your goals back to good health.
Following are more words of wisdom to keep you focused.
"How you feel has everything to do with how you act and how you perform.
If you can fake it, you will eventually be it, because all things happen
in thought first, then they happen in form."
- Dave Robbins
Sounds very promising, doesn't it?
So keep happy, positive thoughts, now and forever.
Sorry to hear that you are missing graduation ceremonies, but the diploma presentation isn't the climax of years of hard work. And it certainly isn't the measure of a persons achievments and success.
Your life is the measure and you are living it very well right now. You are an inspiration to all of us who need to learn to count all our small successes and find the joy in just being. We're glad you've come into our lives.
Affectionately,
The Geffert's
Aunt Ci Ci, Uncle Steve, Allie and Matt,

FULL RECOVERY!
Lots of Love,

God is loving you & we are still here praying for you and your family...
Mr.and Mrs.Cagen, I am so thrilled at the progress Allie is making. God is doing great things through this tragedy for your faith and the faith of others. I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant, C.O.T.A. and have worked in rehab many years. I was wondering if Allie is wearing high top tennis shoes to prevent drop foot or if she has a metal type box that holds the sheet pressure off of her feet. I know she has alot of therapist working with her, but sometimes because of her medical condition this is overlooked. I read that one day last week Allie had a spa day, why can't she have one everyday? We would give our female patients massages with nicely scented lotions(Bath and Body Works). This will stimulate her both through touch and smell. Also, are the nurses giving her good oral hygiene? Again, sometimes this gets overlooked because of so many other health issues. There is a product that we use on infants that does not foam or have to be rinsed out. Oragel makes it and this will make her feel so much better. Also there is another product for the mouth called Xero Lube(through the pharmacy) that keeps the mouth moist without giving the patient alot of liquid. Both of these products stimulate her mouth and reteach her how to relearn lip closure. In one of the blogs you mentioned Allie drooling. Is speech or O.T. having her do mouth exercises? She can practice blowing bubbles and/or blowing kisses to strengthen her oral muscles. We always kept the radio or TV on to stimulate the brain and introduce words/sounds. Have you tried a laptop computer for communication? I work with special needs children also and we use index cards on a ring for low tech communication. Put on pictures of things that Allie needs to tell you and she can flip through the cards and show you the picture that represents what she needs you to know.(ie;pain,hungry,thirsty,yes,no,rest-room,bath) It sounds like Allie has a wonderful group of medical professionals working on her behalf and a very devoted family. When you add God to the mix, she is covered. Take care! Mary
I've put aside one of my paintings for you. Lynn & I are thinking of you and all the good you have done; the plays we have watched; the joy you have brought to our lives.
I very often think of you during these difficult days following your accident. I pray for you, your family, and your medical and therapy teams. It is so good to hear reports of progress. I pray you can continuously respond and there is overall healing for your body. With many special thoughts, Jean Young
"The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." Numbers 6:24-26 KJV
Allie: We just read your Dad's account of your graduation; we know you would have wanted to be there; but, know he was a great standin for you. I can just hear the applause and cheers which were all meant for you and your family! We congratulate you on your many talents and know that will go on to Pace, NYC after "FULL RECOVERY". We pray for you every day and know that you are GOD's healing hands. GOD bless you and know that we love you! Yesterday was our 58th anniversay and we have four grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren; we have added you to our family and consider you one of our own! Much love and kisses!
