Tuesday Afternoon, May 29th

Hi Everyone,

I'm back. Well, here we are day 15 and we have never been more hopeful or confident of Allie's recovery than we are today. As strange as it may sound, spending 15 days in the ICU is quite a learning and loving experience. Tragedy strips away the outerlayer and shows the humanity underneath. Through suffering we come together and grow.

Allie is having quite a good day. She continues to heal herself and make herself stronger. What a little fighter. She was up ALOT last night so as soon as mommy and daddy stepped in the room this morning she went right to sleep. How comforting it is to have mommy and daddy there.

When she woke up, she was once again quite active. She is really moving her head well and looking around. We don't know what she is seeing but we believe it is angels or spiritual guides. Last night, on a lark, I just turned on the tv thinking she might like something different. The Ms. Universe pagent was on (something Allie would have watched) and she turned her head to the tv and appeared to be watching is. Don't know if she was but I believe innately she knew what it was and she fixed on it. Either way, I believe what I believe and I believe she was watching.

Today I placed a mini keyboard in her hand and pressed her fingers on the keys to produce sound. She they made a few keystrokes dah, dah, dah - dah, dah, dah then she had enough and shut daddy out. Things are going well. Allie is discovering that her body parts work and she is beginning to make them move.

Great news - since Allie did so well on the oxygen only, they have reduced the size of her trach tube - another good sign and another step towards her breathing all on her own. I forgot to mention, she is still in a coma - amazing how the body works one way to heal and another way to survive. God is amazing!

Kent and Diane visited for a few today along with Madeline and Julie. I'll be back later. Love to all of you.

Hey SuperHero Steve-

Just a quick note to let you know how thrilled faculty, staff and students were at school today after I emailed off last evening's blog! How profoundly amazed and moved we all are by Allie's strenghth and perserverance...but how could she be any other way with the incredibly strong, faithful family she is blessed to be a part of-
We've got scads of Prom pics to share with Allie. Til next time,

Peace and love-

Allyson

Woo Hoo Allie!!! You did it again.- - -Made everybody happy!!!

Read that Monday you pulled the string on the ball 4 times, and did your finger signal 2 times both on demand. Congratulations on a job well done!!!
Everybody's so excited to hear that you're communicating. We'll be checking back to see what other good things you accomplish on your journey back to full consciousness. What a good role model you, and your family, are setting for the rest of us who may someday have to face your type of crisis. We are proud to be included in your world.

Hi Guys!

I'm back home now and just wanted to express my thanks to you and to Allie. Being there was such an amazing experience. Being with you all reminded me how powerful our outlook on life in general is. Sometimes I forget that attitude is everything but what a reminder! You guys are an incredibly generous and loving family and I'm very grateful to you. Give my love to Allie. :)

cagens... you are so loved and prayed for by all of our prayerful friends and relatives.

one promise that is NOT in my box of "warm and fuzzy promises from God" is that in this world we WILL have trials. Not MIGHT, but Will... and so we are reminded of God's love for us and His perfect plan for our lives.

Nancy, the last time we met outside your office you commented on the magnificence of God because of His hand in creation. I believe it is that very same God... omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient... who holds your family in His hands and this most difficult of times... and the very same power that created all we see and all we are (and, yes, the same power that raised Christ from his death over 2000 years ago)is the power that is healing Allie at this very moment.

be blessed! and if we can do anything at this end, remember we are but a phone call away.

It's so wonderful to hear how you are progressing , Allie! You are a true fighter and we're praying for you every day. Keep up the good work.
-Steve, Nancy and family, I'm so glad you decided to start this spot. It gives us a chance to be so much closer and to know how she is doing. Please know that we think of you often. Allie is an amazing person. We'll be heading out on the highway early in the morning but I'll be praying with every mile and keeping up on my laptop as I get time. We'll see you guys the first week of July. We love you guys.
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
Love, Renee' and Jeremy Smith

Here in Fairbanks, Alaska I don't even know Allie but she is forever on my mind. I was in a store when I heard someone say, "Allie wake up, Allie wake up" and my heart lept in my chest. Someone was trying to wake up a toddler who fell asleep in a cart but I thought, "yes Lord, let Allie wake up." and prayed right there in the store where I stood as people walked around me with my ice cream. Please know that even though I am not someone you know I do have a very big heart and I know that God has big plans for Allie. Please take care of yourselves. Allie will be able to rest and heal better if she isn't worried about you. She knows you love her...please put your oxygen mask on first before helping the ones beside you. God bless... Donna
